Cleo Scott Mays

Cleo Scott Mays, age 100, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 4, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 22, 1915, in Washington County, Va. She was the widow of Homer William Mays, was retired from Harwood Manufacturing after 30 years of service, and was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church.
Cleo was preceded in death by her parents, James Winton Scott and Lula Syphers Scott; five brothers, Charlie H. Scott, Fred H. Scott, C. Sunshine Scott, A.E. Scott, and Clyde W. Scott; an infant sister, Ruby Scott; and a grandson, Dr. Greg M. Eades.
She is survived by her son, Jerry (Nancy) Mays of Chilhowie, Va.; two daughters, Betty (John) Mowery of Abingdon, Va. and Jeanie (Paige) King of Salem, Va.; brother, Bascom C. Scott of Palmyra, Va.; sister, Shirley (Jim) Hagy of Abingdon, Va.; eight grandchildren, Sharon (Sam) McKinney, Todd (Sherry) King, Shannon (Jamie) Shepherd, Allison Mays, Rhiannon (Jason) Adams, Tim (Rebecca) Mowery, Tammy Mowery, and Melissa Mowery; sister-in-law, Faye Gray of Ala.; 14 great grandchildren, Seth McKinney, Samuel (fiance Kailee Caudill) McKinney, Alex Eades, Abby (fianc Cody Hawkins) Eades, Ryan, Brad, and Brandon Evans, Reid Stiltner, Austin Triplett, Ethan and Eli Mowery, Mia Do, Kensey and Jake Shepherd; great-great granddaughter, Ellie Grace Hawkins; several beloved nieces and nephews; two very special caregivers, Doris Reynolds and James Moyer; and her special friends at Washington Court.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Pleasant View United Methodist Church. A funeral ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church with Dr. Ralph Kidd and Rev. Barbara Farmer officiating. Family and friends will convene at the church by 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 8th to travel in procession to Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Minister Frank Branson officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandson and great grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Eades, Bruce Bentley, Bill Parsons, Lester Wright, Charlie Gilbert, and George Muncy.

Box 541027, Cincinnati, Ohio 45254; and the Washington County, Va. Lifesaving Crew, 237 Park St. SE, Abingdon, Va. 24210.
