Clifton Garfield Duncan

Clifton Garfield Duncan, age 84, passed away at his home in the Hidden Valley Community of Abingdon, Va. after a long illness. He was born to the late William H. Duncan and Fannie Wise Duncan on November 25, 1938, in the Brumley Gap Community of Washington County, Va.

Clifton was the last survivor of 10 children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers Dale Duncan of Duffield, Va., Earnest Duncan of Bristol, TN, and Herbert Duncan of Bristol, Va., 6 sisters Beulah Bishop of Richmond, Va., Goldie Gilley of Meadowview, Va., Coletis Helton of Tazewell, Va., Dixie Reynolds, Marie Reynolds and Christine Brewer all of Abingdon, Va.

Clifton is survived by his wife of 62 years Lora B. Duncan, sister-in-law Lucille Duncan of Bristol, Va., several wonderful nieces and nephews, and his little furry friend Freddie.

He was saved on January 23, 1972, at the Chestnut Grove Community Church in Hidden Valley. He pastored the Morning Star Church for over 21 years and at Wesley Chapel for 16 years. Clifton was employed by Greendale Elementary School and Virginia Transit in Richmond, VA.

A funeral service will be held of Sunday, December 11,2022, at 5:00 PM in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 427 East Main Street, Abingdon, Va. with Brothers Charlie McCamy and Leo Rymer officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM before the service. Interment will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 12, 2022, in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, friends are asked to be at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. His nephews John Helton, Randy Duncan, Freddie Duncan, Mike Reynolds, Billy Wise, Adam Smith and Roger Hearl will serve as pallbearers. Honorary bearers will be Ellis Nunley, Daton Harmon, James Wise, Frank Scott, David Smith, Gene Martin, Daniel Hoss, Shean Hobbs, Chris Lee, George Mays and Jeff Kestner.

The family offers heartfelt thanks to caregivers Mary Ray and Kristy Ray.
