Hansonville, VA Cloyd Vester Meade, born July 4, 1927, died July 17, 2016 at age 89. Vester was born and raised in Pound, VA to the late Walter and Laura Cantrell Meade.

At a young age Vester went to work at Conleys Garage in Pound, VA and also worked as a mechanic at Chevrolet Garage in Clintwood, VA where he became a certified Chevrolet Mechanic. In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Army and fought in the Korean Conflict and received an honorable discharge in 1953. After the military he married Edna Hill and moved to Mannasses, VA to work at the government distillery. In 1957 he moved back to Cranes Nest, VA where they gave birth to their son. Vester started a coal trucking business and a garage. In the late 1960s he started a strip mining business and later entered deep mining during which time two coal tipples were added to the operation he owned and operated with his partner Clifford Davis. The businesses became Mountain Enterprises Coal Company based in Dickenson County, VA. In 1978 Vester relocated his residence to Hansonville, VA where he started a beef cattle operation. In 1991 he sold Mountain Enterprise Coal Company to Virginia Iron and Coke. Vester spent his later years enjoying and operating his beef cattle business.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Edna Hill Meade; five brothers, Olvier, Tory, Bill, Letcher, and Vernon Meade; and five sisters, Hettie Boggs, Ruby Chester, Nellie Cantrell, Dollie Moore, and Eunice Meade. Vester was the last living sibling of his family.

He is survived by one son, Steve Meade and fiancee Susan of Hansonville, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held 1-2 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Willis Osborne officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with military rites conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard.
