Connie Alvin Linkous

February 2, 1952 — January 5, 2024

Abingdon, VA

Abingdon, VA - On January 5, 2024, Connie Alvin Linkous passed away in Abingdon, VA, and was welcomed home by the God of his faith. Connie was born in the coal mining town of Gary, WV. His father was a coal miner, and his mother was a homemaker. Connie was the youngest of ten children (four brothers and five sisters). His family then moved to Ohio. Connie graduated from high school and entered the Army, serving from 1972-74. After military service, Connie worked in a machine shop in Cleveland, OH, and held various odd jobs over the years.

In 2011, Connie came to Johnson City where he began receiving care at the Mountain Home VAMC. Connie was raised in the Pentecostal Church and maintained a prayer life with God. Connie lived a rather simple life, loved his little transistor radio, his pipe, and bright red rollator.

Connie was especially close to many providers at Mountain Home VA. They considered it an honor to care for him. We, at the Mountain Home VAMC, are happy that Connie will be buried here at our National Cemetery in a service on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain Michael Woods officiating.  Military rites will be provided by the Virginia Army National Guard and the Boone Dam V.F.W.
