Curtis T. Lang, a devoted family man and esteemed member of the community, passed away on September 28, 2024 at Abingdon Health & Rehab. He was born on January 28, 1933 in Giles County, Virginia to the late John Emmit Lang and Kate Howell Cumbee Lang.
Curtis was a graduate of Pearisburg High School and committed nearly three decades of professional life to the Virginia Department of Transportation where he established himself as a respected figure before retiring 29 years ago. His colleagues and friends remembered him as a diligent worker who approached every task with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
Those who knew Curtis often spoke of his warm personality. His kindhearted nature left a lasting impact on everyone he interacted with.
In addition to his parents, Curtis was preceded in death by his wife, Bess Helbert Lang; his brother, Emmit Lang; and step-daughter, Deborah Vaughan.
Curtis's legacy continues through his surviving family members. He is the beloved father of four sons: Curtis Lang, Mike Lang, David Lang, and Paul Lang, and step-children Patricia Ebernickle, Catherine Wolfenbarger, and Ralph Helbert. He is also remembered fondly by his brothers, Raymond Lang and Jack Lang. In addition, he is survived by eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will greatly miss his loving presence in their lives.
Curtis’s life will be celebrated with a graveside service at 1:00 pm on October 2, 2024, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, located at 19415 Lee Hwy, Abingdon, VA., with Rev. Barbara Farmer officiating.
