Curtis Ray "C.R." Bartley

Abingdon, VA – Curtis Ray “C.R.” Bartley, age 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at his home. C.R. was born on February 16, 1928 to the late Auty and Myrtle Mullins Bartley and raised in Dickenson County, VA.

During his lifetime, C.R. worked a variety of occupations. He was a miner in Dickenson County, VA, owned a grocery store in Big Ridge, VA, worked as a carpenter, a delivery man, and as a night watchman for Fruit Growers Express in Alexandria, VA. He loved his family and had many interests including gardening, playing numerous musical instruments, and making hushpuppies for visitors. Family was important to C.R. with whom he created many memories. He never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Prentiss, James, Earl, and Billy Joe Bartley; and two sisters, Irene Mullins and June Hill.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruby Alice Lyall Bartley; daughter, Geneva Redder-McKinney of Abingdon, VA; three sons, Benford Ray (Becky) Bartley of Spotsylvania, VA, Tommy Lee (Marilyn) Bartley of Fredericksburg, VA, and Jerry Dean (Sandy) Bartley of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren, Brent Redder and fiancée Elizabeth Sparks, Candice Redder Wilfong, Rob Bartley, Eric Bartley, Ben Warren (Tracy) Bartley, Zach Bartley, Casey Bartley, Jacquelin (Matt) Bartley Edelen, Jason Bartley, Matthew (Renee) Bartley, Rachel (Jason) Bartley Aponte; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandson, Ryder Wilfong; sister, Fay (Bob) Comer of Colorado: special sisters-in-law, Mildred Stanley, Opal Simpson, and Loriene Bartley; forty-one nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.

Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2018, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Bishop Andy Nowicki and President Jeff Bauserman of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints officiating. Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park with Mike Lyall (who C.R. thought of as a son), Brent Redder, Ben Warren Bartley, Jerry Bartley, Rob Bartley, and Tommy Bartley serving as pallbearers.
