Curtis Blaine Tate, Jr.

Abingdon, VA – Curtis Blaine Tate, Jr., age 60, passed on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at his home.   Blaine was a graduate of Abingdon High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from East Tennessee State University.  He retired from the Washington County Virginia Sheriff’s Office as a Lieutenant after 38 years of service.  

Blaine attended Abingdon First Church of God and enjoyed spending time with his family, watching football, with three of his favorite teams being the Patrick Henry Rebels, Tennessee Volunteers, and as everyone knew, his ultimate favorite was the Dallas Cowboys.  Blaine recently fulfilled his long-term dream of making it to AT & T Stadium, which was made even more special by being able to watch his best friend play live on the field.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Blaine Tate, Sr. and Kathleen McElyea Tate.  Blaine is survived by his wife, Kathy Dunn Tate; daughter, Ashley Tate; granddaughters, Elli Tate and Madison Groseclose; special nephew who Blaine considered his son, Will Dunn; and several nieces and nephews.

Blaine considered everyone he met as a friend and was that to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.  His biggest passion was always helping children and being a friend in their time of need.

Visitation with the family will be held 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.  Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Steven Richardson and Rev. Bob Neace officiating.  Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park with. Law Enforcement Rites will be conducted by the Washington County Virginia Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard.
