Daniel Clinton “D.C.” Walker, 79, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. D.C. was born July 16, 1939 in Quarry, Va. to the late Virginia and Lindsey “Happy” Walker. He was the co-founder of W-L Construction and Paving Inc., which started with only one dump truck. D.C. loved tobacco and collecting antiques of any kind, especially tractors.
He is preceded in death by his son, David Scott Walker; grandson, William Clinton Walker; grandparents, Daniel and Rufus Walker; and sister, Betty Sue Lowe.
D.C. is survived by his son, Daniel B. Walker and wife Kim of Chilhowie, Va.; three grandchildren, Fallon Grinstead and husband Tyler, Lindsey Walker, and Gavin Walker; two great-grandchildren, Emery Kate Walker and Gracie Mae Grinstead; special friend and companion, Brenda B. Lewis; daughter-in-law, Melissa Walker; granddaughter-in-law, Ashley Spence Walker; friend of the family who D.C. considered as his daughter, Loretta Sexton; several cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2019, in Chilhowie Baptist Church with Pastors Chuck Herrell and Cody Sturgill officiating. Interment will follow in Westwood Memorial Gardens with Jay O’Brien, Tommy Bishop, Tom Buchanan, Travis Lewis, Ken Taylor, Fred Foran, and Bobby Ketron serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Toby S. Blevins, Jerry Farmer, Jay Rhea, Kenny Lewis, and the former employees of W-L Construction & Paving, Inc. There will be no visitation prior to the service.
