Daniel Douglas "Doug" Hale, 82, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2011 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA.
He was born in Chilhowie, VA and was a son of the late Daniel L. Hale and Virginia Reedy Hale Adams. Doug was an active member of Byars-Cobbs United Methodist Church in Glade Spring and was a former employee of Pioneer Chevrolet. He served his country through a 40 year career with service during the Korean War as well as reserve service with the Air Force, Navy and Army. He was also a volunteer with the Abingdon and Glade Spring Life Saving Crews.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn McThenia Hale; his sister, Nancy Clark and husband, Allen of Banner Elk; nieces and nephews, Ted McThenia, Chris Goff, Bonnie McFall, Donna Clark, Cameron Serafim, Knox Clark and Courtney Wainscott; and 7 great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Paul Griffith officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to assemble at the cemetery.
No formal visitation will be held but friends are welcome at Farris Funeral Service to sign the guest register.
