Daniel Carlton Gentry

Daniel Carlton Gentry, 65, passed away on the Lord’s day, Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Roper St. Francis Hospital in Charleston SC. He was born August 20, 1957 in Abingdon, VA to the late Reeves Gentry and Cara Sue Dollar Gentry. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Gentry. He retired from management and leadership with Lowe's Home  Improvement where he built relationships and friendships that lasted a lifetime. Dan enjoyed boating, the beach, fishing and anything on the water. He loved cooking, especially for family and friends, or while watching the Kentucky Wildcats. He carried a big smile always, lifted up each room he walked in, and cared about everyone he knew deeply.  

Survivors include daughter, Dana Gentry and her husband Adam Roach, of Lexington, KY and Charleston SC; Son, Christopher Gentry and wife Kaitlyn Gentry of Charleston, SC. Two grandsons, Graham Carlton and William Hayes Gentry; Brother, Dwayne Gentry (Tracy Mourton) of Lexington, KY; and several nieces. 

The family will receive friends and family for a memorial celebration of life on Monday, August 7, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon.

The burial will take place with immediate family only at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, VA where he will be laid to rest peacefully with both of his parents and brother.
