Darlene Briggs Thomas, 70, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Darlene was a member of the Marion Church of God. She worked at and retired from Food City in Chilhowie after nearly 20 years of service. Those remembering Darlene think of her as one of the friendliest people that they’d ever met.
Darlene was predeceased by her parents, Rev. Wayne and Sally Briggs; brothers Jimmy, Russell, Rev. Bobby, and Bill Briggs; and sister Ruth McGlocklin.
She is survived by her husband Ronald Lee Thomas and daughter Marlena both of the home; brothers Rev. John (Zona) Briggs of Woodlawn, Va., Jackie (Jo Ann) Briggs of Waynesboro, Va., and Tommy Briggs of Hillsville, Va.; sister Florence Collins of Salem, Va.; sisters-in-law Myrtle Briggs, Dot Briggs, and Linda Briggs; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the Marion Church of God with Revs. Arthur Chapman and Jerry Alley officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon where Bobby Inscore, David Payne, Eddy Collins, Danny Price, Johnny Farmer and Harold Thomas will serve as casket bearers. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
