Abingdon, Va. – David Bradley Kirk, Sr., age 74, passed on Sunday, July 31, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones. David was born March 27, 1948, to the late Nellie Cassady and Bradley Kirk. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Warren Cassady, and three brothers.
David was a proud United States Marine, having served and nearly losing his life during operations in the Vietnam Conflict. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, a member of the D.A.V. Chapter 57, V.F.W. Post 1994, and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #1042. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and card shark. David will be remembered as the best “Bear” granddaughters could have.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Debra Kirk; daughter, Becky Vestal, and husband Robert; son, David Bradley Kirk, Jr. and wife Courtney; three granddaughters; three sisters, Ann Slate, Bobbie Fleenor, and Sue Singleton and husband Randy; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday, August 5, 2022, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Vestal officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with David Bradley Kirk, Jr., Robert Vestal, Josh Nunley, Jeff Slate, Chip Burroughs, and Randy Singleton serving as pallbearers. Military rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the United States Marine Corps.
