Abingdon, Va. – Dean Jeffery Marrs, 62, passed on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. Dean was a 1974 Graduate of Grundy High School, graduated Magnum Cum Laude from Southwest Community College, and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering from Virginia Tech. He lived many years in Richlands, Va. before moving to Abingdon in 2014. Dean worked dependably for Pittston Coal Company for over 20 years. He enjoyed listening to music and was a dedicated caregiver to his mother-in-law.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Thelma Cook Marrs. Dean is survived by his wife of 43 years, Deborah Lynn Dickey Marrs; son, Brian Jeffery Marrs of Richlands, Va.; daughter, Melanie Dawn Daniels and husband Matthew of Sevierville, Tenn.; brother, Jerry Marrs of Elkton, Md.; sisters, Kim Yates and husband Danny of Elkton, Md. and Donna Johnson of Northeast, Md.; grandchildren, Tori Kaitlin Marrs, McKayla Quinn Marrs, and Abigail Rece Daniels; and several great grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be held 2:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2018 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A memorial service will follow at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Matthew Daniels officiating.
