Della Johnson Fletcher

Della Johnson Fletcher, age 89, of Abingdon, Va., was reunited with her husband in heaven, on October 4, 2021. She was kind-hearted, strong-willed, and funny with a witty sense of humor. Della was a joy to be around even up until her last days. She remained a kind, caring, and generous person even when her own comfort was not promised. Della loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; she was especially grateful for Solid Rock Baptist Church where she attended for over 30 years.  

She was preceded in death by her father Robert Johnson; her mother, Minnie McFarland Blondell; and her stepfather, Floyd Blondell; two sisters, Janice Rohrs, of Malcom, NE, and Stella Rose of Keokee, Va.; three brothers, Willard Johnson, of Appalachia, Va., Robert Johnson, of Remington, Va., and Aaron Johnson, of Christiansburg, Va.  

She is survived by her son, Gary Fletcher and wife Michelle, of Meadowview, Va; her daughter, Lisa Ann Fletcher, of Manassas, Va.; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Nguyen and husband Chris, of Ashburn, Va.; her brother, Elmo Johnson, of Woodbridge, Va.; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.  

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 8, 2021, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, with Pastor Bill Hawkins officiating. Family and friends will serve as honorary pallbearers. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
