Delmar Franklin Barton passed away on September 19, 2022, at Johnston Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
He was a graduate of Haysi High School, attended UVA-Wise College and Southwest Virginia Community College. He attended Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church, where he served on the Maintenance Committee and was a member of the Thursday morning Bible study. Delmar spent many years in coal mining and started Abingdon Auto Lube.
He was preceded in death by his parents Caney & Emma Barton, one brother, Ferrel Barton; one half-sister, Betty Mitchell; and two half-brothers, Jack Arrington and Bob Arrington.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Wilma "Winkie" Barton; two daughters, Rhonda Pringle and husband, Wayne; Pam McCracken and husband Steve; two step-sons, Richie Hooker and Scott Hooker; six grandchildren, Tasha Lily, Josh Camper, Billy Pringle, Tyler McCracken, Star McCracken and Kendra Hooker; one brother, Danny Barton and wife Audrey.
The visitation for Delmar Barton will be Friday, September 30, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the church. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Abingdon Auto Lube and members of the Thursday morning Bible Study.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church, 136 E. Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210.
