Meadowview, VA Mrs. Dessie Stamper, age 88, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at her home. She was born in Grayson County, Virginia, daughter of the late Andy and Minnie Blevins. Dessie had worked as a cook at Abingdon High School and Mt. Rogers School. She was a beautiful lady and a great mother who enjoyed taking care of her family. She was a member of Damascus Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Lee Stamper, and by her son-in-law, Melvin Morrison. Dessie is survived by her daughters, Dixie Morrison Sells and husband Wayne, Lucy Manuel and husband Ray, and Lorraine Stamper, all of Meadowview; her son, Raymond L. Stamper and wife Joyce of Whitetop, Va.; sisters Creola Sizemore of Atkins, Va. and Ethel Hayden of Wytheville, Va.; four grandchildren, Wayne Morrison, Michael Manuel, and Jennifer and Bradley Stamper; and five great-grandchildren Nick, Katie, Dakota, Jackson and Eli. The funeral service for Dessie Stamper will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2015, at Whitetop Baptist Church ( 15771 Highlands Parkway, Whitetop, Va.) with Rev. Mark Loggins and Rev. T. A. Pennington officiating. Burial will follow at Byars Cemetery in Whitetop. Pallbearers will be Michael Manuel, Lloyd Blevins, Wayne Morrison, Mike Sizemore, Bradley Stamper, Benny Coe, Nicholas Lewis, and Albert Sizemore. Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Stamper, Fealous Stamper and Mike Stamper. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Whitetop Baptist Church.
