Abingdon, VA Dewey Lee Fields, age 78, passed on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at his home. Dewey lived all of his life in Abingdon and was a member of Duncanville Church in Brumley Gap. He worked as a coal miner and as a lumber yard attendant at Visador from which he retired. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Winston Fields and Flora Lee Helton Fields; wife, Rosa Elizabeth Thompson Fields; daughter, Brenda Lee Fields; granddaughter, Angel Mae Chapman; great grandson, Albert Junior Tignor; brothers, Arthur Fields and Clinton Fields; sister, Birtty Little; and nephew, Jimmy Fields.

Dewey is survived by two daughters, Angie Chapman and husband Samuel of Bristol, VA and Bonnie Smith and husband Glenn of Abingdon, VA; four grandchildren, James Ray Smith, Benny Lee Smith, Bobby Joe Smith, and Christina Statzer; seven great grandchildren, Benny Robert Smith, Lucas Conner Smith, Shawn Ray Smith, Elizabeth Tignor, Ilibert Tignor, Gauge Statzer, and Kevin Statzer; great-great grandchild, Braylen Jace Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2016, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in Mt. View Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Clark Powers, Rev. Hassel Justice, and Rev. Joseph Dunn officiating. Pallbearers will be Bobby Joe Smith, Samuel Lee Chapman, Ronnie Wayne Statzer, and Benny Lee Smith. Those wishing to travel in procession to the cemetery are asked to convene at the funeral home before 12:35 p.m. Saturday.
