Don Earl Keene age 90 formally of Pounding Mill Virginia, recently residing in Bristol, Virginia, died on Friday, June 3,2022.
Don was born April 12, 1932 in Buchanan County Virginia Don was the son of the late Oliver and Laura Rowe Keene. After graduating high school in 1951 and attending college he joined the army. He was a United States Army Corporal, Korean war veteran. Mr. Keene was the former owner and operator of Clinch Valley Coal company. Don was a member of the United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic lodge AF and a.m. #318 of Richlands Virginia and the Kazim Shriners of Roanoke Virginia.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his four brothers and three sisters, his son Ryan Keene and daughter Diane Keene.
Don is survived by his wife of 69 years Doris Evelyn Keene of Bristol Virginia; Daughters, Laura Bays Reynolds of Abingdon Virginia, April Street Kaiser of Altadena California; Daughter-in-law Crystal Keene; Grandsons Mark Bays, of Bristol Tennessee Oliver Keene of Rich Creek, Virginia; Granddaughters Gabrielle Keene of Tazewell and Ariana Haggerty of Abingdon Virginia; Great grandsons Hayden, Logan, and Aven Bays; Great granddaughter Evie Keene.
Don was a beloved husband and father, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating with his many family members and friends. He spent time teaching the younger family members how to waters ski and fish. Don spread joy his entire life, he was loved by so many his passing leaves us broken hearted. He will be missed, we will always treasure the time we had with him. We will faithfully wait until the time comes we are all together again in Heaven.
The family will receive friends at 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM on June 18, 2022 at Greenhills Mausoleum Chapel located at Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery, 11800 Gov. GC Perry Highway, Cedar Bluff, VA 24609
The Graveside Funeral service will follow at 12 PM at the Mausoleum Chapel with Reverend Manny Elswick and Reverend Anthony Grills officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and the V.F.W. and D.A.V. Burial will follow in the cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Mark Bays, Oliver Keene, John Keene, Clark Kennedy, Cillian Haggerty, Hayden Bays
