Donald Raymond Ellis died peacefully on the morning of March 15, 2017. Don was born on November 29, 1924 in Logan County, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Dewey and Ethel Ellis, and by his brothers Robert Ellis, Jr. and Paul Ellis. He is survived by his wife Eloise V. Ellis, his daughter Regina Duffie and her husband Wayne, and a step- granddaughter and great-granddaughter.
Don was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran, an engineering graduate from the West Virginia University School of Mines, and a career coal miner who retired from The Pittston Company. Don became an enthusiastic life-long golfer and was widely known as a true gentleman. He was always a positive thinker and when asked how he was doing, Don’s favorite saying was, “I’m uncommonly good!”
Don will be laid to rest in a graveside ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017 in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Military rites will be presented by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard.
