Donald Russell Emmert, Sr., age 88, of Abingdon, Va., joined his wife in Heaven after 16 years apart, on Sunday, October 1, 2017. He was born March 4, 1929, to the late Richard Emmert and Elizabeth Lewis Emmert. Don was a farmer and a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Margaret Ann Nickels Emmert, and several siblings.
Don is survived by three children, Phyllis Fields and husband, Don, of Abingdon, Va.; Donald Russell Emmert, Jr. and wife, Angie, of Blountville, Tenn.; and Pat Wyatt and husband, Mike, of Abingdon, Va.; sister, Ottaline McCracken and husband, Bob, of Bristol, Va.; seven grandchildren, Travis Fields and wife Heather, Brad Wyatt, Nathan Fields, Amy Wyatt, Tobi Fields, J.D. Wyatt and wife, Courtni, and Donald Russell Emmert, III and wife, Bethany; two step-grandchildren, Lindsey and Brandi Horne; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at Mountain View Methodist Cemetery where pallbearers will be selected from grandsons and sons-in-law. Those wishing to travel in procession to the cemetery are asked to convene at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service by 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
