Donald Gene Tate, age 76, of Bristol, VA, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at his home. He was born October 29, 1946, to the late Leon K. Tate, Sr. and Anna Belle Canter Tate. Don organized and helped build Galilean Baptist Church in Meadowview, Virginia where he pastored 11 years. He later pastored Summit Baptist Church in Sugar Grove, VA for 20 years. During this time, he was employed at Tri Cities Christian School. After leaving Summit Baptist, Don was a faithful member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Marion, VA.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Carol Tate; sister, Carolyn Kimberlin; brother Leon Tate, Jr. and sister-in-law, Patricia Tate.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lovada Taylor Tate; son, Michael D. Tate and wife, Tiffany of South Carolina; daughter, Sharon M. Doherty and husband, Patrick, of Blountville, TN; brother Larry James “Jim” Tate and wife, Jan, of Bristol, TN; and seven grandchildren, Callie, Reese, Austin, and Macey Tate; and Ethan, Gavin, and Emmerson Doherty.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 1:00 pm at the Farris Funeral Chapel, 427 E. Main St., Abingdon with Bro. Mark Lundy, Bro. Allen Parks, and Bro. Doug Halsey officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, in Bristol, VA. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00  pm on Thursday before the service.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the caretakers at Ballad Hospice, and to family members for their love and care shown to Don.
