Donnita Phillips Owens

Donnita P. Owens, age 78, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022, at her daughter’s residence. She was born January 4, 1944, to the late Louie Phillips and Ruth Owens Phillips in Buchanan County, Va. Donnita was a lifelong beautician owning and operating Hair Illusions Beauty Salon until her retirement in 2014. She loved playing the Nintendo, working in her flower garden, and feeding the birds and squirrels. Donnita was a member of Wyndale United Methodist Church. Her vast bell collection is evidenced throughout her home and curio cabinet. The most important thing to her was her family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Alex Granville Owens; and brother, Michael Phillips.

Donnita is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Danny) Brown; son, Lance (Gaye) Owens; three grandchildren, Amanda (Joey Thigpen) Brown, Cory (Kaitlin Price) Owens, and Scott (Jill) Blankenship; and great grandchildren, Kobe and Isabella Blankenship.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Carolyn Kidd officiating.
