Doris Marie Umberger, 90, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Washington County, Virginia, daughter of the late M.V. and Gaye Bowman. Doris was a 75-year member of Abingdon Baptist Church and worked for Raytheon Corporation for 34 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Umberger, and her brother, Robert Bowman. Doris is survived by her brothers Pete Bowman of Jonesboro, Tenn., Mack Bowman of Athens, Ga., and George Bowman of Powell, Tenn.; sisters Betty Hurd of Knoxville, Tenn. And Ruth Collier of Kingsport, Tenn.; sisters-in-law Mary Anne, Ann, Anne L., and Martha; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral service for Doris Umberger will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, with the Rev. Michael Poole officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Forest Hills Chapel on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
