Dorothy Bamford Pledger

Dorothy Bamford Pledger, age 89, peacefully passed away Friday, August 26, 2011 at Grace Healthcare of Abingdon, VA after a courageous battle with Alzheimers.
She was born in McDonald, PA on May 22, 1922 to Zula M. and John D. Bamford.
She is preceded in death by her late husband Dr. Huey Pledger, Jr. and sister, Zula Cole.
Dorothy was a graduate of University of Florida with a Bachelor of Health Science. She was a Medical Technologist and worked for several years at Shands Teaching Hospital in Gainesville, FL, Smyth Co. Community Hospital and Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by Roland and Cindy Pledger of Lynn Haven, Florida, John and Karen Pledger of Trinity, NC, Gail and John Mitchell, of Abingdon, VA, Craig and Wendy Pledger, of Gainesville, FL and Brian and Rhonda Pledger of Roswell, GA; three sisters, Eleanor Finley of Belle Vernon, PA, Esther Shot, of Coco, FL, and Shirley Grove of Martinburg, WV; 13 grandchildren, Carmen Lathers, Hans Pledger, Jr., Becky Owens, Gary Reithard, Jason Reithard, Eric Pledger, Erin Pledger, Kelly Mitchell, Samantha Mitchell, Autumn Mitchell, Tyler Pledger, Sarah Pledger, Emily Pledger; 12 great grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 10:30 am at Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim Reynolds officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 4-6 pm at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Alzheimer Association of Abingdon, VA, c/o Abingdon Senior Center, 300 Senior Drive, Abingdon, VA 24210.
