Dorothy Hawkins Scyphers, 87 of Abingdon died at her home on Friday, April 8, 2011.

Dorothy is the daughter of the late Stephen J.B. and Clara McIntyre Hawkins; she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Scyphers; and four sisters, Lela "Elsie" Gentry, Pauline Noonkester, Florence Scott, and Martha Lee Goodson. She was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church of Abingdon.

Dorothy is survived by three sons, Glenn Scyphers of Abingdon, J. Steven Scyphers and his wife Becky of Bristol, TN, and Mark Scyphers and fianc�©e Marcia of Bristol, TN; four daughters, Brenda Hawkins, Constance "Connie" Gillenwater and her husband Jim, Gloria McThenia, and Linda Scyphers-Hartsock and her husband Larry all of Abingdon; seven grandchildren, Phillip Scyphers and his wife Lori of Colonial Beach, VA, Jimmy Gillenwater and his wife Krystina, and Jacob Scyphers all of Abingdon, Shannon McCloud and her husband Jeff of Maryville, TN, Ginger St. John and her husband Todd, Rebecca Thompson and her husband Erik, all of Abingdon, and Audrey Scyphers of Bristol, TN; seven great-grandchildren; Christopher McCloud, Stephen St. John, Jr., Luke St. John, Landon Scyphers, Sarah McCloud, Alexis Scyphers, and Madison Gillenwater; four nephews, Dr. William Gentry, Mike Noonkester, Ron Noonkester, and Jerry Goodson; and one niece, Carol Noonkester.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon with the Rev. Dr. Ralph Kidd, Rev. Barbara Farmer, and Rev. Nelson Woody officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, and Jeff McCloud, Todd St. John, Erik Thompson, Lorne Hartsock, Mike Noonkester, Ron Noonkester, Jimmy Nelson, Archie Moncier, Gary Singleton, and Allen Singleton.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Ernest N. Henry and his staff for their wonderful care over the years.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in honor of Dorothy Hawkins Scyphers to Pleasant View United Methodist Church, 18416 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210.
