Dorsie S. Wood

Abingdon, VA – Dorsie S. Wood, age 95, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at English Meadows in Abingdon, VA.  Dorsie was the son of the late Jacob J. and Rilda B. Edwards Wood.   Dorsie was a graduate of Haysi High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He lived much of his life in Michigan where he worked for Chrysler Motor Corporation until he retired.  Upon retirement he and his late wife Hildred Ball Wood moved back to Virginia. 

He was a Member of Community Church at Bristol where he was a Faithful Member until his health failed him.  Dorsie loved to work on his vehicles and kept them in tip top shape.  His lawn was always kept in perfect condition, and he enjoyed doing his outside work as long as he was able. 

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Stacy, and Jacob Wood, Jr.: four sisters, Stella Fuller, Edna Ramey, Tilda Robinson, and Mary Lyall.  He is survived by many nieces and nephews that will dearly miss him.

Visitation with the family will be held 10-11 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023, in the Forest Hills location of Farris Funeral Service.  Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Matthew Fuller officiating.  Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens where family and friends will service as pallbearers.

The family of Mr. Wood would like to thank his niece, Brenda Fuller, for taking such great care of Mr. Wood following the death of his nephew, Don Fuller.  The family owes her a huge debt of gratitude.
