Douglas Randall “Randy” Barnes, age 67, of Abingdon, V.A. and formerly of Chateaugay, N.Y., passed away suddenly after a long illness on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at his home. He was a 1968 graduate of Chateaugay Central School and graduated from welding school in 1970. He operated a welding shop in Chateaugay and then went to work as a welder for the New York State Power Authority. He climbed through the ranks and retired after 30 years of service. Entirely self-taught, he earned high ranking positions usually held by those with advanced degrees. Randy served on the Chateaugay Rescue Squad for many years and was a pioneer of the EMT certification program. He loved the lake and was always tinkering with an old boat or snow sled. A tireless worker, he was seemingly never without a home improvement project to keep him busy.
Randy was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Carl “Doug” Barnes; and wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” Hoy.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret McCue Barnes; two daughters, Amanda Barnes and Aimee Hanna and husband, Corey, all of Malone, N.Y.; two step-daughters, Jessica Rivers-Bellomo and husband, Mark, of Kingston, N.Y. and Alyssa Murray and husband, Tim, of Cottleville, M.O.; two sisters; Beverly “Bev” Verna and husband, Mike, of Las Vegas, Nev. and Trudy Lobdell and husband, Arnold, of Burke, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Talia, Elise, Elijah, Sam, and Clare; and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held in New York.
