Douglas Wayne Owens

Douglas Wayne Owens, 67, passed away after an extended illness on Mar. 18, 2012. Doug was born in Glade Spring, VA and has resided in Jonesboro for most of his life. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran. Doug loved his farm, riding horses, and trading mules with the Amish. Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Henry and Ann Hickey, paternal grandparents, Elmer and Rachel Owens, father, David Owens, and sister, Oleta Jo Donnelly.

He is survived by his mother, Roberta Hickey Owens; two daughters, Rachel Pelkey of Jonesboro, TN and Lauren Owens of Knoxville, TN; son, Douglas W. Owens, II of Hollywood, CA; sister, Carol (Richard) Blevins of Mt. Carmel, TN; grandson, Logan Pelkey; several cousins and numerous friends.

Graveside services will be held 1:00P.M. Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Baptist Cemetery in Glade Spring, VA with Rev. Catherine Sandefur officiating. Pallbearers will be Douglas Owens, II, Logan Pelkey, Anthony Herman, J.C. Maloyed, David Heff and Angie Heff. Military Honors will be rendered by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard.
