Dr. Julius Temple Goodman, 94, of Bristol, VA, passed away on September 28, 2023, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Dr. Goodman was born in Welch, WVA, on June 10, 1929, but was raised in Christiansburg, VA. He attended Hampden-Sydney College and the Medical College of Virginia. Following his internship in Augusta, GA, Dr. Goodman served as a Captain in the U.S. Airforce for 4 years. He practiced medicine in Glade Spring, VA from 1958-1968. He moved to Augusta, GA where he worked for the VA Hospital until his retirement in 1990. He and wife moved to Abingdon in 1995 and then in 2015, they moved to Brookdale Assisted Living facility in Bristol, VA.
Dr. Goodman is preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Johnson Goodman. He is survived by three sons, Robert Goodman (Vicki) of Macon, GA, Mark Goodman (Susanne) of Woodstock, GA, and Vincent Goodman (Deborah) of Kingsport, TN, four grandchildren, Chris Goodman (Rachel) of Woodstock, GA, Richard Goodman (Amy) of Wyoming, OH, John Goodman (Erin) of Acworth, GA, and Mike Goodman (Amy) of Roswell, GA., and seven great-grandchildren, Luke, Jude, and Hank of Acworth, GA, Xander and Greyson of Wyoming, OH, and Charlie and Stella of Roswell, GA.
Dr. Goodman was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching SEC/ACC football and the Atlanta Braves.
A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Abingdon, Virginia on Friday, October 27, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Boyd Evans officiating, followed by a celebration of life gathering.
