Abingdon, VA- Durwood Lenzie “D.L.” Blackmon, age 69, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at his home. He was born the fourth child of the late Luby Marshall Blackmon, Sr. and Sallie Johnson Blackmon on March 24, 1945 in Harnett County, NC. D.L. served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was President of Huff-Cook Mutual Burial Association and worked as an insurance executive for 46 years. He was a member of Highlands Fellowship Church, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed watersports. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Linda Lee Blackmon; son, Durwood Lenzie “Beau” Blackmon II and fiancé Janet Moffitt of Abingdon, VA; daughter, Kelley Blackmon Walker and husband Scott of Cary, NC; two brothers, Luby Marshall Blackmon, Jr. and wife Willow Dean of Benson, NC and Robert Elwood Blackmon and wife Ruby of Welcome, NC; sister, Mattie Beasley of Benson, NC; three grandchildren, Lenzie, Ashby, and Daniel Blackmon; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Benson, NC.
