Earl C. Widner, age 75, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016 in Johnston Memorial Hospital. Earl was a Washington County, Va. native and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a retired machinist from Kennametal and he attended Rosedale Baptist Church. He was known to be a practical jokester, who enjoyed the outdoors; camping, cooking, and fishing. Earl had a deep love for kids and his family.
Earl was predeceased by his wife of 37 years Janie Yarber Widner, his parents Monroe and Roxie Thomas Widner; sisters Mabel Widner, Louise Heath and Mildred Crosswhite; brothers Joe, Jack and Paul Widner. He is survived by his sisters Ruby Fields (Donald) of Chilhowie, Va., Betty Ward of Asheville, NC, and Shirley Widner of Glade Spring, Va.; special niece Melissa Wix, and special nephew Eddie Widner; great nephew Austin Widner, who could always bring a smile to Earls face; half-sisters Faye Hoback (Richard) and Mae DeBord (Joe) both of Chilhowie, Va.; and half-brothers Allen Widner (Kim) and Billy Widner both of Chilhowie, Va.; sister-in-law Shirley Widner of Glade Spring, Va.; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Rosedale Baptist Church with Dr. Don Paxton officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Church Cemetery where casket bearers will be selected from nephews and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
