Earl Lester Blackwell, age 75, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 17, 2018. He was a lifelong resident of Abingdon. Earl worked at Washington Motor Company for over twenty years, and then owned and operated has own auto body repair shop until he retired. He was a lifelong fisherman and could be found on the lake every chance he got.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Virginia Pope Blackwell,sister Patsy Mabe, and brother Danny Ray.
Earl leaves behind his wife Stella Blackwell, four children, Kathy Crusenberry and companion Chip McCall of Abingdon, Tammy Simcox and husband Darryl of Bristol, Tim Blackwell and wife Gina of Guam, and Judy Blackwell of Georgia, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and nine siblings.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Junior Gobble officiating. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery at least 15 minutes prior to the service.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the care givers at Grace Healthcare and hospice nurses, who all gave Earl special love and care.
NOTE: The graveside service date was changed from Friday to Saturday due to travel challenges experienced by family members.
