Mr. Earnest E. "Bummy" Widener, age 88, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Mr. Widener was a lifelong resident of Washington County VA. He was a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), where he worked for over 40 years. His greatest joy was on the banks of a stream casting a line or hunting for the largest deer. Bummy has cast his final line of life. We are truly thankful for the many years that he was able to enjoy.
Mr. Widener is survived by his wife, Clara Grace Widener; son, Jerry E. Widener (Carolyn) of Abingdon; two daughters, Phyllis Wagoner (Leonard) of Copper Hill, VA, and Annette Widener of Roanoke, VA. Bummy was predeceased by his parents, Billy and Cora Widener; one child, Kay Roark; five sisters and four brothers.
Graveside services for Mr. Earnest E. "Bummy" Widener will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, where Reverend Danny Thompson will be officiating. Friends are asked to meet at the graveside at least 15 minutes prior to the service.
