Eddie Wayne "Ed" Norris, age 78, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord and Savior on Friday, April 2, 2021, surrounded by family at home. He was the sixth of seven children born to the late Wade Forster Norris and Eula Frances Rose Norris on February 22, 1943, in Clintwood, Va. Ed worked as a coal miner for 17 years, but retired from Dana Corporation in 2004. Ed was a loving and devoted husband, father, granddad, brother, and friend. He adored and was most proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved being with family, friends, and his beloved dog, Sophie. He had an avid love for the outdoors. He had a passion for horses and enjoyed sharing his love for hunting with his sons. Ed had a love for sports and was a fanatic of the Atlanta Braves, Virginia Tech Hokies, and Cleveland Browns. He was a Mason, Shriner, and was best known for being the Wizard in the Shriner parade.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three siblings, Dale Norris, Joyce King, and Lawrence "Bud" Norris.
Ed is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Mary Adams Norris; three sons: John Norris (Andrew) of Raleigh, N.C.; Kyle Norris and wife, Misty, of Abingdon, Va.; and Brett Norris of Abingdon, Va.; three grandchildren: Ashley Norris and fiancé, Ronny Laver, of Midlothian, Va.; Chelsey Norris of Abingdon, Va.; and Hunter Norris of Abingdon, Va.; four great grandchildren, Isaac, Addilyn, Madelynn Grace, and John Carter; three sisters: Jean Hill of Clintwood, Va.; Sue McClanahan and husband, Kyle, of Grundy, Va.; and Lorene Shafer and husband, Jack, of Streetsboro, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Hwy., Abingdon, Va. 24210, with Chaplain Mike Driver and Bill Parish officiating. A committal service will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. In observance of Covid-19 precautions, social distancing practices will be observed and masks will be required for attendance.
