Edgar “Dean” Hughes, age 85, of Meadowview, Va., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 3, 2018, where he joined his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth Ann Davis Hughes; and his precious daughter, Sherrie Hughes Stuart, in heaven.Dean was an enthralling “story teller” and in his younger years he was an avid outdoorsman. As much as he loved to trout fish his heart belonged to being a fisher of men for his Lord. As a veteran of the United States Army, Dean was wounded in the Korean War and won several medals. He was known for saying what an honor it was to serve his country. Dean was a member of Rosedale Baptist and Fellowship Baptist Churches where he served in the capacity as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. He recently attended Galilean Baptist Church. In addition to his wife and daughter, Dean was also preceded in death by his parents, William Hughes and Ellen Combs Hughes; and eight siblings.
Dean is survived by his daughter, Lisa Hughes Sutherland and husband, Rick, of Abingdon, Va.; son-in-law, George Stuart, husband of the late Sherrie Hughes Stuart, of Meadowview, Va.; five granddaughters, Jaclyn, Keely, Deana, Jenny, and Kelsey; 10 great grandchildren, Alex, Makayla, Tateland, Isabelle, Logan, Jacob, Odin, Ember, Ridley, and Bryson; great-great grandson, Weston; and another great-great grandson on the way, Micah.
