Abingdon, VA Mrs. Edith Proffitt Collins, age 83, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2014 in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Collins was a native of West Virginia and had lived in Bradshaw, WV before moving to Abingdon in 1978. Edith was of the Holiness faith. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved cats, and her work and love for these animals earned her a volunteer award with the Animal Defense League. Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her parents Leff and Mae Rowe Proffitt; son-in- law Clyde Blankenship, and infant grandson Robert Allen Boothe. She is survived by her husband Robert F. Collins; two daughters, Loretta Hughes and husband Kenny of Bristol, VA, and Robin Blankenship of Paynesville, WV; sister Marie Pruitt and husband Will of Tazewell, VA; grandchildren Amy Baker, Jeff Hughes, Heather Anglin and Jessica Thomas; and six great-grandchildren. The Collins family will receive friends at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2014. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 7:00 p.m., conducted by Pastor Willis Osborne. A committal service will be held on Friday, October 31, 2014 at 12:00 noon in the Mountain View Cemetery, Bristol, VA, conducted by Pastor Ellis Hagerman. Family and friends are invited to meet at the cemetery Friday by 11:45 a.m. Edith’s family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Bristol Regional Medical Center for the love and kindness shown to Edith during her illness and stay at the hospital.
