Edmond James Beverly

Edmond James “Ed” Beverly, 94, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at English Meadows, Abingdon, Va. Ed was a long time resident of Abingdon. He owned and operated Beverly’s Clothing Store and The Charwood Shop for many years. Patrons of his stores will remember his engaging smile and pleasant conversation. Ed was also a land developer. Because of his vision, Abingdon enjoys several subdivisions and retail shopping centers.  He was very proud of his military service during WWII. He was in the Army Air Corps and served in the South Pacific. 

Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Lillian Mullins Beverly; son, James “Jim” Beverly; infant daughter Diane Beverly; his parents Fred and Victoria Rakes Beverly; and brothers Frank Beverly, Arnold Beverly, and Kilby Davis.  

He is survived by his son, John Beverly and wife Teresa of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Justin Beverly, Brad Beverly, and Allison Osborne and husband Greg; two great-grandchildren, Kai Osborne and Lorelai Osborne; and sisters Nadine Farmer and Kathleen Cruise. 

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Mark McFadden officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens where family and friends will serve as casket bearers. 

The family would like to offer heart-felt thanks to the staff at English Meadows and to the staff at Caris Hospice for the love, care, and kindness shown to Ed during his illness.
