Bristol, TN – Edwin Langley Poston, age 97, passed on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, in the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Johnson City, TN. Edwin was born and raised in Meadowview, VA and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Ed was a retiree of Sullivan County School Systems HVAC Dept., a member of Patton-Crosswhite V.F.W. Post #6975, the D.A.V. #40 of Bristol, and Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Murphy and Mary Fleenor Poston; wife Eleanor Ball Poston; grandson, Russell Eades; and sisters, Hazel Smith, Thelma Beicki, and Laura Barr.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Eleanor Jean Eades of Bristol, TN; grandson, Tommy Joe Eades; great grandsons, Jeremy Eades and Brian Wheat; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Jane Humphrey.
Visitation with the family will be held 5-7 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church, 300 Henson Lane, Bristol, TN. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Bro. Gary Rowlette officiating. A committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday in Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery, Glade Spring, VA, with Zan Kirby, Don Hagy, Don Turner, Johnny Ball, Wayne Ball, and Henry Millard serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Carter, Tommy Eades, Jim Gross, and Freddie Ashbury. Military Rites will be conducted by Patton-Crosswhite V.F.W. Post #6975 and the Virginia Army National Guard. Those wishing to attend the committal are asked to convene at the cemetery before 1:00 p.m.
