Elbert Ray Poston

Abingdon, VA – Elbert Ray Poston, age 81, passed on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at home with family.  Ray worked at Moss Trucking for over 27 years and at Mid Mountain as a dispatcher and truck driver.  He loved showing the Food City Buggy and meeting new people.  He was a member of Meadowview Fire Dept for 47 years.  Ray loved working, fishing, and having a good time with his companion “Spot”.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Arthur and Annie Johnson Poston; loving wife, JoAnn “Sissy” Poston; grandson, Alex McCracken; daughter-in-law, Evalyn Poston. 

Ray is survived by his son, Pete Poston of Deland, FL; daughters, Debbie Stallard and husband Pat of Abingdon, VA, and Sherry and Ronnie Woodward of Saltville, VA; grandchildren, A.J. Woodward, Matthew Stallard, Tyler Stallard, and Christopher McCracken; and great grandchildren, Arrow Stallard, Anna Stallard, Waylen McCracken, and Jolene McCracken.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2023, in the Main Street location of Farris Funeral Service with Tyler Stallard officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Meadowview Fire Dept., 13156 Meadowview Square, Meadowview, VA 24361, in Mr. Poston’s name.
