Elene Lambert Stanley, 88 passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Grace Health Care Center.
She was the eldest child of Charles and Zella Smith Lambert and the eldest grandchild of
Christley and Cora Lambert.
She was born in Tenso, VA and was a teacher in the Dickenson County School System for twenty seven years and the Washington County School System for ten years. She was a member of the Clintwood Baptist Church until moving to Abingdon in 1971 when she became a member of the Abingdon Baptist Church. Her life revolved around her family and her church. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Stanley and a brother, W. C. Lambert.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Ann Stanley Vanover, Abingdon, VA, a brother, Haskel Lambert, Clintwood, VA, a sister, Willetta Lambert Suttle, Marietta, GA, a sister-in-law, Wilma Lambert, Abingdon, VA, a grandson, Joshua Stanley Vanover, Charleston, SC, eleven nieces and nephews, fourteen great nieces and nephews, two great great nieces and nephews and two aunts.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. until the time of the service in the Farris Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Service Main Street Chapel with Reverend Dr. David Wadsworth of the Central Presbyterian Church, Bristol, VA officiating.
The committal service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010 in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:45 a.m.
