Elizabeth (Betty) Cozart Patterson passed away Monday, December 19, 2016. She was born April 9, 1924 in Abingdon, Va., and she grew up in Abingdon and Marion, S.C. Betty graduated from Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. and spent the rest of her life in Abingdon.
She was an active member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church and was involved in a ladies circle at her church, Booklovers, Garden and Bridge Clubs. Betty was an avid flower gardener and loved spending time in her greenhouse.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Jeffreys Cozart and Eliza Byars Cozart; her husband of 63 years, Douglas A. Patterson, Jr.; and her brother, James Edward Cozart.
Betty is survived by her four children: Martha Patterson Morefield, James Mac G. Patterson, Douglas A. Patterson III and wife Jan, and Edward B. Patterson and wife Pam; sister-in-law Joan H. Cozart; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.
There will be a celebration of Betty’s life at a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Jon Martin officiating.
