Abingdon, VA – At the age of 90, Ella Beatrice Phelps Pendleton, a beloved mother went to sleep and rest in the arms of Jesus on Friday, October 17, 2014. Ella was the daughter of the late Thomas and Kate Boger Phelps. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Sunshine Pendleton; granddaughter, Jessica Nicole Pendleton; brother, Orbin Phelps; three sisters, Vivan Hagy, Thelma Jones, and Jane Flannagan. Ella was a hard worker and loved the outdoors. She loved cooking, baking, helping out friends, and going to church. Ella was a member of Chestnut Grove Community Church. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Pendleton; sister, Shirly Laird; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Gobble and Carmen Nunley; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Wanda Taylor. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 20, 2014, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Olen Cassell and Rev. Frankie Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park with Kenneth Nunley, Gary Nunley, Gale Phelps, Toby Phelps, Kenneth Taylor, and Jerry Townsend serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Gobble, Terry Breedlove, Roger Hearl, Paul Meade, and the members of Chestnut Grove Community Church. Visitation with the family will be held 6-9 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
