Ella Jean Gilbert Harris Buck

Bristol, Va.
“Go rest high on that mountain dear loved one, your work on earth is done”. Ella Jean Gilbert Harris Buck, our loving mother, departed this earthly home, sprouted her wings, and went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at age 85. She was born in Lebanon, Va. on July 29, 1933 to the late Benny and Lizzy Gilbert.
Ella Jean lived a faith filled life of service to family, friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed raising a garden, working in her beautiful flowers, decorating for holidays, doing word find puzzles, and spending time with family and friends. Ella Jean will be remembered for her classy way of dressing, her feisty spirit, and for her loving way of taking care of family and friends. She worked many years as a waitress and hostess at various restaurants and attended Highlands Fellowship Church for many years where she sang in the choir. Mother gave her all to her family and we children would like to thank her for all her love, support, and sacrifices.
In addition her parents, Ella Jean is preceded in death by three sisters, Linda Sylvia, Mildred Marshall, and Gerry Puckett; three brothers, Robert Gilbert, Garnett Gilbert, and Jimmie Gilbert; first husband, Marvin Harris; and daughter-in-law, Judy Rock Harris. She is survived by three children, Bonnie Gillie and husband Brent, Johnny Harris, and David Harris and wife Buna; grandchildren, Miranda Rosenbaum, Dwayne Bright and wife Sandy, Tammy Wood, Doug Harris, Justin Harris and wife Brittany; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; special sisters, Eva Mettee and Mary Lou Booher; and many other special family members and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August
18, 2018, in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Va. with Keith Mettee and Justin Harris officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and volunteers at Hospice House for their loving and compassionate care. We would like to thank Ella Jean’s very special friend and companion,Ed Johnson, for all he did for mom. Rest in peace mother, we love you.
