Ellen Love Sproles age 76 passed away Tuesday March 1, 2011 at her home. She was a life-long resident of Washington County Virginia and was preceded in death by her parents Richard Coy and Leila Brewer Love, her brother Richard K. (Dick) Love and her half brother Paul Love.
Ellen was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church in Abingdon Virginia. She was a graduate of Wallace High School and the Johnston Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Johnston Memorial Hospital for over 41 years.
She loved the sport of bowling, working crossword puzzles, learning to paint and volunteering her time at the hospital and with various local and civic organizations.
Ellen is survived by her husband of over 50 years William K. (Bill) Sproles of Abingdon Virginia, her son Kirk Sproles and his wife Traci of Abingdon Virginia, her daughter Peggy Barnett and her husband Jon of Bristol Tennessee and her step-daughter Susan Sproles Smyth of Wilmington Delaware. She has 3 grandchildren Jonathan Barnett of Charlotte North Carolina, Raven Barnett of Las Vegas Nevada and Jessica Smyth of Wilmington Delaware.
She is also survived by her sisters Alice Fleenor of Abingdon Virginia, Helen Rose of Lebanon Virginia, Thelma Owen of Old Fort North Carolina, her 3 half sisters Shirley L. Bias of Marion North Carolina, Susie Payne of Bristol Virginia, and Linda Soots of Concord North Carolina and her half brother Don Love of Oak Island, North Carolina.
The Family would like to pass along their special appreciation to Dr. Mark Davis and the staff of the Johnston Memorial Hospital Cancer Center, Dr. Andrew Chang and also Nurses Louise Slone, Fran Hagy and the rest of the staff of Hospice of Southwest Virginia for their wonderful care.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. at Pleasant View United Methodist Church with Reverend Barbara Farmer and Reverend Ralph Kidd officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 7:00 P.M. at the church prior to the service. Interment will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Forest Hills Memory Garden those attending will meet at the cemetery.
