Elsie Westine Caudell Sword, well-known Abingdon resident, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at her home. She was born April 3, 1934 in Eaton, Weld County, Colorado. Westine was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Pendergraft; step-father Joseph Booth; brother Charlie Pendergraft; first husband, Billy R. Caudell, Sr.; second husband, Joseph P. Sword; and son Joseph W. Sword.
She is survived by her mother, Mildred Clanton Pendergraft Booth of Miami, OK; four brothers: Tom Pendergraft (Shan) of Tulsa, OK; Larry Booth (Joan) of Pharr, TX; Steve Booth (Virginia) of Grove, OK; and Doug Booth (Misty) of Grove, OK; two sisters: Carol Coker of Tulsa, OK, and Melissa Adkison (Chris) of Miami, OK; and a very special sister-in-law, Trudy Pendergraft of Miami, OK. Westine is also survived by her four sons: Bob Caudell (Deb), Bill Caudell (Teresa), Tim Caudell (Valerie), and Tom Caudell (Genia); by twelve grandchildren very special to her heart: Shannon Caudell Owens (James), Rita Caudell, Christina O'Quinn Taylor (Chad), Jessica O'Quinn, Jeremy O'Quinn, Meghan Caudell Davenport (Andrew), Samantha Caudell, Chris Caudell, Brad Caudell, Nick Caudell, Lindsey O'Quinn and Hannah Caudell; and by one great-grandchild, Christian Taylor. Many beloved nieces and nephews survive, along with special friends Brenda Gayle Neely, Leona Lebo, Joyce Morris, Shirley Clark, Ann Newman, Billie Jo Lester, Marie McGlamery, Saundra Thayer, Betty Landis, Debbie Wood, Ann Grubb, Jessie DeProspero, Melinda Leland, Sue Thayer, Marie Buttrey, Wanda Bailey, Patty Terry, and so many more.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Wellmont Hospice and Westine's personal caregivers for their help and support during this difficult time.
Her cinnamon rolls will be missed!
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 18th at the funeral home with Pastor Bob McCormick, Reverend Calvin Gobble, and Reverend Paul Price officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Brad Caudell, Chris Caudell, Nick Caudell, Andrew Davenport, James Owens, and Chad Taylor will serve as pallbearers. Spc. Jeremy O'Quinn U.S. Army and Reverend Harry Booher will serve as honorary pallbearers.
