Emma D. Burke, age 92, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Abingdon Health and Rehab Center. Emma was a native of Washington County, Va., and she retired from Harwood Manufacturing. She had three loves in her life; her church, her family, and cooking.
Emma was predeceased by her parents, David and Sarah Kestner Dolinger; and her husband of 25 years, Vernie Burke.
She is survived by her daughters, Florence Roberts and husband, Fred, of Abingdon, and Christine Roark and husband, Robert, of Chester, Va.; son, Dayton Burke and wife, Dolores, of Abingdon; sisters, Mereidith Johnson of Tennessee and Betty Cardwell of Michigan; grandchildren, Tony Roberts, Beverly Balint, Catina Horne, Marcie Sanders, and Kristy Garland; 11 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.
The family will receive friends at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service from 5:00 PM– 7:00 PM on Monday, April 16, 2018. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM with Pastors Steve Vaughan and Wayne Chant officiating. Interment will be at 10:00 Tuesday, April 17, 2018, in Knollkreg Memorial Park. Casket bearers will be Barry Compton, Gene Robinson, Charlie Sullivan, Bobby Inscore, Buddy Roberts, and Randall Osborne.
The family offers their heartfelt appreciation to caregivers, Judy Gobble and Rita Hawkins, the staff with hospice, Johnston Memorial Hospital, and Abingdon Health and Rehab Center for the care shown to Emma during her illness.
