Mr. Erkward Logan, Sr., 87, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 in the Sentara Nursing Home, Chesapeake, VA after a brief illness. Erkward was a member of Zion Hill A.M.E.Zion Church, Meadowview, VA who served his country in WWII. He was a retired federal employee who was a dedicated Washington Redskins fan.
He was the son of the late Albert Logan, Sr. and Flossie Bunch Logan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 57 years, Lonnie Smith Logan and his son, Erkward Logan, Jr.
Erkward is survived by two sons John Logan (Mildred) of Charlotte, NC; David Logan (Louise) of College Park, GA; three daughters Geri Mitchell (Allison) of Chesapeake, VA; Sylvia Logan of Nashville, TN; Phyllis Paige (Nathan) of Chicago, IL; two brothers J.C. Austin of Brooklyn, NY; Rev. William A. Austin (Ann) of Abingdon, VA; one sister Lucinda Bowers of Annapolis, MD; two grandchildren Jonathan Mitchell and Logan Emily Paige; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 1:00 pm in the Forest HiIls Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA with Rev. William A. Austin officiating. The committal service will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Graveside rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at the Forest Hills Chapel.
