Ernest L. Jones, Sr., 69, of Abingdon, passed away November 10, 2012 at Grace Healthcare following a brief illness. Mr. Jones can be remembered by many for his enjoyment of walking the East End of Abingdon wearing his bright orange vest and toboggan and carrying his backpack. Mr. Jones was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and he was known for his excellent memory and beautiful singing voice.
Thank you to all the local merchants who made Ernie feel special and part of the community, especially his friends at CVS Pharmacy, The Huddle House, Tru Point Bank, The Worx, and Cracker Barrel; and to Teresa, James, and neighbors at Ridgefield Court in Abingdon.

Mr. Jones is survived by a son, Ernest L. "Lonnie" Jones, Jr.; two daughters, Lisa A. Jones and Nita Marie Jones; and one sister-in-law, Mary "Susie." .
Graveside services for Mr. Jones will be conducted Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Barbara Farmer officiating. A visitation for friends and family will be from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Hwy., Abingdon, VA.
