Fredericksburg, VA Ethel Gere Rose Moore, age 87, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 in the Fredericksburg Chateau. She was born and raised in Kentucky but spent most of her adult life in Meadowview, VA. To be closer to her daughters, she moved to Richmond in 2010 and Fredericksburg in 2011.Ethel was a Baptist and was a member of the Greenfield Baptist Church. During her working years she was employed, along with her husband Howard, by Emory & Henry College, where she worked as the switchboard operator. Howard was the College Treasurer and Ethel was the operator. Working in close proximity to each other, they loved their work life and their home life. Ethel was a joyous person who loved music and dancing. She was also a good neighbor, reaching out to all who needed help. Ethel was one of twelve children, and she helped raise her younger siblings. From this experience, she developed a lifelong love of babies. She was a wonderful homemaker and loved gardening, canning and sewing. In retirement, she had a fine reputation for making beautiful doll clothes. Ethel was predeceased by her husband Howard Moore in 2002. She is survived by her daughters Donna Patterson of Richmond, VA and Dr. Rebecca Bigoney and husband Burton of Fredericksburg, VA; four brothers Don, Jerry, Fred, and Johnie Rose; two sisters Connie Tackett and Betty Sue Callebs; grandchildren Burton Bigoney, III and wife Katie of Seattle, WA; Dr. Lauren Bigoney of Richmond, VA, Alison Carmack and husband Ben Payne of Mechanicsville, MD; and Elizabeth Norris of Chicago, IL; and great-grandchildren Grove Bigoney and Daniel Payne. A funeral service for Ethel Gere Rose Moore will be conducted on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon. Entombment will follow in the Colonial Mausoleum at Forest Hills, where pall bearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends at the Forest Hills Chapel from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
