Ettie Jane Dempsey DeBord, age 101, passed away at home in Abingdon, Va. on Wednesday August 10, 2016. Ettie was born in 1915 in Smyth County, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben H. DeBord, a WWI Army Veteran; parents Charlie and Merite Suit Dempsey; two sons Earl and Walter DeBord; siblings Norman, Warren and Lewis Dempsey, Macie Jennings, Lottie Reeves, Ossie and Verdie Dempsey; granddaughter Debra Kay Blevins and son-in-law Lloyd Blevins, Sr.
She is survived by her sons Gerald and Kermit DeBord of Abingdon, Va. and James (Jim) DeBord of Chilhowie, Va.; daughters Margaret Blevins of Chilhowie, Va., Mattie, Brenda and Glenda DeBord of Abingdon; daughter-in-law Julia DeBord Wilcox; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many special friends and neighbors.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday August 13, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Warren Cemetery; Abingdon, Va. with Rev. Roger Hearl officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM 8:00 PM on Friday August 12, 2016 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
